Bruce Cowan, director of the Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs, opened the committee meeting by introducing Sheldon Smith as the governor's appointee to the Colorado Board of Veterans Affairs and outlining Smith's service record.
"Mister Sheldon Smith is a Colorado native residing in Montrose, Colorado. He has served a total of 28 years in the United States Army and the Colorado Army National Guard," Cowan said, and noted Smith's subsequent decade of service as a county veteran service officer supporting veterans and their families.
Sheldon Smith, appearing online, said he appreciated the opportunity to continue serving Colorado veterans and described his background as a veteran service officer for 11 years. "I want to say thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve my state," Smith said.
Committee members asked no questions of the appointee. Vice Chair (committee member) moved to forward the nomination to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation; the committee recorded its assent and the motion carried. The chair thanked both Director Cowan and Mr. Smith for their attendance.
This action is a committee recommendation only; the full Senate will consider the appointment in a subsequent floor action.
