Perry County recycling crew reports 46,000 lb cardboard, 10,465 tires collected; plans May 9 side-by-side parade

At the April 29 meeting Tanner Brown provided the county’s recycling update and announced a community event seeking a Guinness World Record.

Brown said the recycling crew collected 46,000 pounds of cardboard in March, about 170 pounds of plastic and roughly 100 pounds of aluminum. He reported that Perry County collected 10,465 tires during a recent tire-collection event.

Brown also announced plans for a side-by-side vehicle parade at noon on May 9 at East Perry and said organizers are aiming for the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest side-by-side parade. He encouraged public participation and noted local partners who will set up tents and support the event.

The chair and other court members framed the parade and Leatherwood-area developments as part of a broader tourism push for East Kentucky and Perry County.
