The governing body met in a special session and approved an alcohol license renewal for Wilson's Tap after staff reported the bar’s license had lapsed and been flagged by the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.
An agency official summarized the situation, saying, "We had a notice from the Iowa alcohol beverage division, for a notes of cancellation. During that time, we go up and we talk to them and let them know that they're not to serve alcohol that they need." The official added that the business paid a special fee and was seeking to renew the license and estimated "Monday is gonna be the earliest" the state agency could complete approval.
The approval drew criticism from one council member (Council member (S3)), who said he was opposed to convening a special meeting to remedy what he called the business's administrative error. "You let it expire, and then you expect us to jump through hoops, come in and approve this," the council member said, and suggested the special fee of $300 was too low.
A motion to approve the license was made by Council member (S3) and seconded by Council member (S2). The clerk performed a roll call: Hammer; Henson; Kehoe O'Kelly; Mormon; Williamson; Angstrom; Hammer (as called) — each was recorded as voting "Yes." The Chair announced the motion passed and then adjourned the meeting.
The meeting record shows staff conveying that Wilson's Tap had been instructed not to serve alcohol during the lapse and that state approval from the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division was required before service could resume. No public comment from Wilson's Tap representatives is recorded in the transcript.
