St. Augustine commission accepts FY2025 audit; auditors report clean opinion and no findings

The City Commission accepted the fiscal year 2025 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and the accompanying audit after a presentation by Finance Director Melissa Burns.

Burns told the commission the audit, conducted by the firm Malden & Jenkins, issued an unmodified (clean) opinion and reported no findings. She said the city’s total assets exceeded liabilities by $269,000,000, with approximately $61,000,000 available to meet ongoing obligations. The city’s net position increased by $38,000,000 (17%); governmental fund net position rose by $19,000,000. Burns also reported the city reduced total bond and note debt by $3,000,000, bringing outstanding debt to $52,000,000.

Commissioners praised the finance team for achieving a zero-findings audit and thanked staff across departments. Commissioner Jim Springfield called it a significant accomplishment and said it reflects strong stewardship across city departments.

Mayor Nancy Sykes Klein moved to accept the audit; Commissioner John DePrater seconded. The clerk called the roll and all named commissioners voted yes; the motion carried. No further action was taken at the meeting.
