Cooke County extension agents report 47,480 educational contacts, $171,932 in volunteer value

Angel Neu and Phyllis Griffin, Cooke County extension agents, presented the office’s annual program update to the commissioners, highlighting outreach, 4‑H enrollment and youth programming.

"Last year, we had 200 educational events within Cook County, between the three extension agents, with our total educational contacts being 47,480," Angel Neu said, and reported 11,696 total educational hours. Neu also noted about 274 volunteers contributed 4,942 hours, producing a volunteer‑value estimate of $171,932.

Phyllis Griffin described 4‑H activity: the prior 4‑H year’s participation numbers, shooting‑sports competitions, and growing enrollment approaching 300 members in the 2025–26 year. She said 4‑H programming extends into schools through club work and a "healthy recognized school campus" initiative; middle‑school students learned clothing and textiles skills this year.

Agents also summarized Family & Community Health programming, including healthy meal preparation and food‑preservation classes, and preschool farm‑to‑table activities. Commissioners praised the programs and encouraged continued outreach.

The presentation emphasized youth development, volunteer engagement, and continuing recruitment for camping and summer activities; no formal action was required.
