Weatherford plans new Fire Station 5 with training tower; construction slated for September start

Council and staff received an update on Fire Station 5 during the April 17 retreat, including site plans, staffing and equipment preparations.

A presenter described the project as a 5‑acre site for a station roughly "over 12,000 square feet" with a three‑apparatus bay and a separate training tower that could host outside departments on a rental basis. The rendering shown to council emphasized modern living and training facilities, including day rooms, kitchens and shift‑specific pantries.

Chief Peacock, who took questions about operations and staffing, said the department planned staffing increases over multiple years so crews would be in place when the station opens: "We've been planning for the station for 3, 4 years. We started adding 3 firefighters, in each project year," and apparatus have been ordered with funds reserved in the equipment replacement fund.

Design‑build team work is expected to finish in August to allow a September construction start; staff anticipated roughly one year of construction, targeting doors open in September 2027. Council members asked about traffic, site access and long lead times for apparatus; staff said an engine would be available for operations upon opening and that material lead times and manufacturing delays are being monitored.

What’s next: staff will complete final design documentation and return with procurement documents and any necessary change orders, and the department will continue to report on staffing and apparatus delivery timelines.
