Council approves design services for Fire Station 41 tenant improvements

The Atwater City Council voted April 27 to award professional services to Centerline Design LLC for tenant improvements at Fire Station 41, approving staff’s recommendation on the consent agenda.

Staff described four primary project elements for Fire Station 41: converting group dormitories to individual rooms to increase capacity and sanitary conditions; mold remediation in walls and ceilings; ADA compliance upgrades inside the building; and restroom modernization and accessibility improvements. "It’s been established that fire station 41 is in need of some tenant improvements and facility upgrades," the presenter said.

Council members asked whether the city has construction funding once design is complete. City staff said a fund balance could cover the work but that applying for grants would be the optimal approach to finance construction. The city also noted the project could be timed to align with other grant and bonding opportunities.

The council adopted the resolution on a voice and roll‑call vote. Staff said further design details and potential funding sources will be presented as the project advances.

Council direction: None beyond adopting the resolution to award design services; staff will return with design documents and funding recommendations as the project proceeds.
