Moosehead Rescue Mission reports placements and housing progress for Atwater encampment program

Representatives of the Moosehead Rescue Mission updated the Atwater City Council April 27 on work under the Encampment Resolution Fund and a local housing effort.

The presenter described outreach at libraries, parks and encampments and said outreach teams have engaged roughly 20 participants and placed several people; 10 participants are currently on a waiting list. The organization said it has opened its first house (a six‑bed residence) after moving in on April 1 and has a second house ready to open soon; once both houses are operating they expect 12 beds total and are seeking a third property.

The presenters said they are providing casework and helping participants obtain identification, birth certificates and Social Security cards to connect residents to health and other services. They also said they have hired two outreach workers and a house monitor for on‑site support.

Council members thanked the presenters; there were no questions from the council at the time of the update.
