The Blackford County Commissioners approved routine financial items and a local appointment and heard a brief presentation from a state community-development liaison.
On finance items, the clerk presented regular claims totaling $467,469.31, miscellaneous claims totaling $541,089.08 and payroll claims of $68,700.77. Motions to approve each line item were moved and seconded and approved by the board.
The chair moved to appoint Michelle Walker to the Area Planning Commission as the commissioners' appointment; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Following close of business, Lindsey Hammond, northeast community liaison for the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA), described OCRA programs including administration of the state's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the Indiana Main Street program and offered technical assistance to the 17-county northeast Indiana region, including Blackford County.
Why it matters: approval of claims and payroll is a routine but essential part of county fiscal operations; appointments to the APC shape future planning decisions; OCRA outreach identifies potential grant and technical resources for local projects.
Next steps: routine financial records will be posted as part of county minutes; the APC will incorporate its new member and OCRA staff offered to meet with local officials to discuss CDBG and Main Street opportunities.
