In addition to contested measures, the Senate Public Safety Committee advanced several other items by voice or unanimous roll call.
Senator Woods’ amendment to rename a Lawton correctional facility for Chief James Smith was adopted by voice vote; the amended bill passed 7-1.
Senator Hynes presented House Bill 3,082 to prevent people on offender registries from serving as firefighters; the committee passed the bill 7-0 with no debate. Hynes also presented House Bill 41,142 to include conspiring to use bombs or explosives in the unlawful-use offense; the measure passed 8-0.
Senator Yek brought forward House Bill 17,52, an Attorney General’s office request to exempt the Attorney General’s office and the Oklahoma District Attorneys Council from the OMES vehicle requisition process; sponsors said the change reduces administrative burden and the committee passed it 8-0.
Why it matters: These measures are largely technical or noncontroversial but affect agency processes, facility naming, and employment eligibility for public-safety roles. The committee recorded the outcomes and sent the measures to the full Senate.
What’s next: Each passed item will go to the Senate floor for consideration.
