Superintendent asks board to endorse direction for Scotland Yard project as bond funds are reallocated

The superintendent told trustees the district’s recent community session about Scotland Yard produced strong support for the currently proposed changes and asked the board for general direction to allow the design team to proceed to bidding. He said the district’s review found it could be more cost-effective to build a second competition space on the South Campus than to renovate the existing Scotland Yard location, because doing so would let the district reuse locker rooms, restrooms and training spaces and lower overall cost.

Trustees debated whether to proceed immediately or to hold a broader master-planning meeting to place Scotland Yard in context with other athletic and facility needs. Multiple board members requested another meeting to examine how remaining bond dollars would be applied before finalizing the site and scope; the superintendent said that is the purpose of a follow-up workshop (listed on the calendar for April 27).

The superintendent also said some turf work may return to the board in May for specific scheduling and funding, and that the district expects to have additional contingency funds available because of favorable bids on earlier projects.

What happens next: staff will bring final budget and design recommendations back to the board at a future meeting so trustees can decide whether to proceed to bid and contract.
