At the March 18 meeting, the Morgan County Commission approved a proclamation declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Morgan County after a request from the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center.
Lauren Sullivan (speaker 13), representing the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center, asked the commission to recognize the month and said the center serves three counties, supports survivors and provides prevention programs in local schools. The commission moved and approved the proclamation by voice vote.
Separately, the commission agreed to authorize the commission president to sign letters of support for local applicants. Carly Swain (speaker 6), board president of the Morgan Arts Council, had asked the commission to sign a letter backing a Frankenthaler Institute grant application to fund the remaining roughly 75% of a rooftop solar installation that would bring the arts council building near net‑neutral. Commissioners directed staff to prepare the letter on county letterhead, add it to the administrator’s report and provide a scanned copy prior to the grant deadline.
The commission also moved to authorize the president to sign an ARPA engagement letter and approved a drawdown request related to the Sleepy Creek Watershed project; both motions were taken and carried by voice votes. A consent agenda that included routine items was approved and the meeting was adjourned.
