Commission approves annual FDOT traffic-signal maintenance agreement; staff to check crosswalk light

The High Springs City Commission approved a resolution to renew the city’s annual maintenance and compensation agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation for traffic signals and associated street-light maintenance.

City manager summarized the agreement as a routine annual contract: “This is just an annual agreement that you do every year. It’s for the maintenance of your, your street lights,” the city manager said.

During public comment and Q&A, a resident raised a concern about a flashing crosswalk light on Main Street that was not working. The city manager and Public Works staff confirmed they were aware of the issue and would follow up next week to determine responsibility and repair status. “Public Works is aware of it. They’re taking care of the crossing light,” a Public Works representative said.

The commission voted on the resolution by roll call; recorded votes were all in favor of the measure by members present (Vice Mayor Bloodsworth — Yes; Commissioner Grunder — Yes; Commissioner White — Yes; Mayor Andrew Miller — Yes). The chair recorded the motion and the resolution passed.

Staff did not change the contract terms during the meeting. Follow-up will determine whether the crosswalk flashing light is covered under this agreement or handled separately, and Public Works will report back to the commission.
