Needham Revitalization Trust Fund reports benches funded, schedules dedications and installation

Committee chair Paul told members all of the group’s memorial benches are now funded and provided installation updates and upcoming unveiling plans.

Paul said the Dan Warren bench at DeFazio Field has been received and built but is "just waiting for its pad to go underneath it," pending Park and Forestry/DPW scheduling. He also said the McQuivvey bench has arrived and has been built and is marked on site where the pad will be installed. Paul reported a dedication for Vincent ("Vinny") Walsh drew more than 100 people and included many personal stories about his service as a postman for nearly 40 years.

Paul said the Fred Cressi bench has been fully funded and is ordered with a projected ship date of about July 1. He described broad community donations for that bench and noted that, if excess donations remain after funding a bench, the surplus goes back into the trust fund to support future projects.

The committee discussed public interest and community outreach tied to unveilings; members suggested contacting attendees from recent dedications to appear in short Needham Channel interviews to help boost awareness and future sponsorship. Paul agreed to reach out to potential interviewees and to coordinate logistics with the Needham Channel.

Next steps: chair Paul said he will follow up with DPW/Park and Forestry on pad installation scheduling and will notify the committee when unveiling dates (including a likely June dedication) are confirmed.
