Morgan County attorney asks the court to review his pay, saying he earns about $15,400

The county attorney (identified in the meeting record by role) addressed the fiscal court and asked commissioners to modernize the county attorney salary. He said he believed his current pay was far below market for the duties performed and gave a figure from the county's records: "I feel that $15,399.96 is laughable for a county attorney," he said, adding that he has been in the position 11½ years and handles legal work, deeds and daily counsel for the court.

The attorney asked the court to review the position in the context of the upcoming budget; commissioners agreed to schedule a special-call finance meeting to discuss the request and other budget items. The Chair and members noted timing and availability for follow-up meetings; the court did not take immediate action on a pay change at this session.

The attorney's request will be considered by the court at a future special-call meeting and in the finance review process. No formal motion to change salary was passed at the meeting.
