Board considers extending 2006 gate agreement on section of Southeast Buck Creek Road through 2030

A staff member summarized a draft amendment to an existing 2006 agreement that would extend to October 2030 an arrangement permitting a private landowner/organization to construct and maintain gates that restrict general public access to a portion of Southeast Buck Creek Road.

The staff explanation emphasized this is an extension of a long‑standing arrangement rather than a new access policy. Under the original terms the private party is responsible for constructing and maintaining the gate and a gravel turn area at its own expense, assumes liability for the gates and must provide county and other governmental entities with access and keys. The county retains the right to revoke the permit if the owner fails to comply or termination is in the public interest.

Staff said the draft amendment maintains those terms and would simply extend the period through October 2030; if there is board consensus staff will finalize the documents and return with a formal item on a regular meeting agenda. Commissioners appeared prepared to include the matter on consent unless a commissioner objects, and no substantive opposition was raised at the discussion.
