Resident urges action after repeated stop-sign roll-throughs, says videos show city vehicle also ran sign

William Moore, speaking as a concerned resident during the April 23 call to the public, described repeated speeding and stop-sign roll-throughs at the Avenida Cochise and Camino Montana intersection and asked the city to act.

"Despite a posted 25 mile per hour speed limit, vehicles exceed those speeds in our neighborhood frequently," Moore said, citing unsafe behavior by motorists, motorcycles and trucks. He told the council there is no sidewalk at the intersection, that elderly residents and people pushing walkers use the route, and that he has photographed and recorded drivers failing to stop.

Moore said he has video evidence of people "blowing through the stop signs" and that he even observed a city vehicle fail to stop. He asked the council to consider installing additional stop signs, sidewalks, or photo-enforcement where appropriate to deter speeding.

Mayor Clea McAuliffe and Vice Mayor Carolyn Flowers thanked Moore for bringing the matter to the council’s attention and indicated staff were listening; no formal action or vote was taken during the meeting. Moore said he would provide his slide presentation and evidence to staff for follow-up.
