Missoula County releases results of housing & community survey; solicits CDBG pre-applications for June

Missoula County grants administrators detailed the results of a Housing & Community Development survey used to inform CDBG and HOME funding applications. Melissa Richards said the survey had 529 responses and was intentionally non-scientific but consistent with prior years’ questions for grant-eligibility purposes. Outside-city-limit respondents prioritized wastewater system expansion or improvements, neighborhood‑renewal activities and home-condition repairs; countywide priorities included neighborhood renewal, wastewater investment and financing or subsidized housing development.

Richards said Missoula County will accept pre-applications for CDBG funding from June 1–22 to identify subrecipients and projects for a likely fall 2026 application. Eligible categories include affordable housing development and rehab, economic development, public and community facilities, and planning. She encouraged partners to attend a June pre-application workshop and noted full survey results and public comments will be posted to Missoula County Voice.

Public commenters asked the county to apply for specific projects — such as Old Hellgate Village wastewater improvements and a YWCA/Homeward mixed-use affordable housing project — and staff said they will consider these requests during the pre-application window.
