The Livingston Parish School Board unanimously ratified the low bid for the Albany Middle School new gymnasium, accepting McLennan Construction’s total bid of $5,831,000.
Architect Chris Bankston of Gassaway Bankston Architects presented results from the bid opening held April 9 and said McLennan Construction’s base bid was $5,642,000 with Alternate 1 (extra paving) at $189,000, for a total of $5,831,000. Bankston noted the project budget was $6,400,000, so the recommended total came in under budget.
The board moved and seconded a motion to ratify the bids; the vote was recorded as unanimous and the chair said the district would look forward to future opportunities to show the completed project to the public.
The board’s discussion noted the project is funded in part by a half-cent sales tax previously approved by Albany voters; no additional funding requests were made during the public discussion. Further procurement steps and contract execution will be handled by district administration and the architect.
