North Miami youth council schedules joint mental-health panel with Miramar for late May

Youth Mayor Cottier and Paul, the youth council liaison, said the North Miami Youth Council has agreed in principle to a joint mental‑health awareness panel with the Miramar Youth Council and is working to finalize logistics.

Paul, the liaison, told members that “we settled on May 30 at 11AM” as the best date for both municipalities but said he would confirm with Miramar and pursue May 23 as an alternative if needed. He described the event as a moderated panel for Mental Health Awareness Month in May, with youth serving as panelists and answering audience questions.

Members discussed panel composition and agreed the board should select participants internally. Paul recommended four panelists (two members from each youth council) so representation would be balanced; he also encouraged every council member to take part in other event roles (introductions, moderation or logistics) even if not on the panel.

Youth Mayor Cottier raised scheduling conflicts and asked members to confirm availability; several members said the proposed date conflicted with their schedules. Paul said he would follow up with Miramar and communicate final details by group chat once Miramar confirms.

The council did not adopt a final roster at the meeting; next steps are for the youth council to nominate panelists among themselves and for Paul to confirm the date with Miramar and share the finalized plan.
