North Miami youth council plans earlier recruitment and outreach, eyes May 1 application launch

Members discussed strategies to boost recruitment as many current members are seniors who will leave next year. Paul, the youth council liaison, said recruitment efforts will start earlier than in prior years: the plan is to publish the application on May 1, review submissions through June, and have a new board selected by mid‑summer so swearing‑in can take place in August or September.

Suggestions included school outreach, banners, posters and attending back‑to‑school events; one member said she had already begun promotion at her school and others discussed timing and effectiveness of banners. Paul cautioned that distribution at schools is outside the council’s direct control but said the liaison’s office will begin outreach and share the application widely.

No formal decisions to change responsibilities or budgets were made; the council agreed to adopt an earlier timeline and to collaborate on outreach materials.
