Parks director: resurfaced courts and repaired splash pad; Miracle League field to be restored this week

Brian Harper, Marshall Countys parks director, reported on several spring projects to the Fiscal Court on April 21, including resurfaced basketball courts, a sandblasted and repainted non-slip splash pad and lighting upgrades to soccer fields and parking areas.

Harper said the splash pad resurfacing is complete and the county expects a permit next week, with an anticipated opening on Memorial Day weekend. He also reported that the courts have been resurfaced and striped and that residents have already thanked the parks staff for the improvements. Harper noted new veteran-designated parking spots and a working illuminated clock at the park.

On vandalism repairs related to the Miracle League field at Mike Miller Park, court members said Premier Restoration is scrubbing the field and that the county expects the work to be completed within about a week; county staff and a local body shop helped restore Veterans Plaza statues free of charge. Harper recommended periodic maintenance to extend life of the surfaces.

The court accepted the report and thanked parks staff and local contractors for recent work; no formal funding votes for park capital projects were recorded at the meeting.
