Board honors student champions and dozens of retiring teachers and staff

The Wallingford Board of Education opened its April 23 meeting with celebrations: Jack Angelastro was recognized as the Class L 100‑yard breaststroke state champion and the board honored the Lyman Hall hockey team, reading players’ names and arranging certificates for distribution.

Board members and school administrators then paid tribute to a long list of retirees from across the district. Speakers described decades of classroom service and leadership, noting specific program contributions — for example, Michelle Syslo’s work building the elementary computer‑science curriculum and Maria Puzielo’s district math and STEM initiatives. "Her fingerprints are on the careers of educators working across this district right now," one presenter said of a retiree’s influence.
