The Morgan County Commission voted unanimously to proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and to designate May 8, 2026, as Provider Appreciation Day.
Audrey Morris, who presented the pinwheel symbol on behalf of the county prevention team, told commissioners that “child abuse and neglect is preventable” and urged officials and the community to invest early in supports such as childcare, housing and family services to reduce stressors that can lead to harm. Mountain Park Community Services was identified as a partner during the presentation.
Commissioners accepted a proclamation and posed for photographs with pinwheels that organizers provided. The motion to add the proclamation to the agenda and approve it carried by voice vote.
The commissioners also supported a separate motion to name May 8, 2026, Provider Appreciation Day, intended to recognize childcare workers’ contribution to families and the local workforce. Mountain Park representatives and other speakers emphasized that sustainable childcare supports allow parents to work and strengthen the county’s economy.
The commission recorded both actions in the minutes and did not attach conditions to the proclamations. No further formal follow-up was scheduled beyond the publicity and recognition activities mentioned during the meeting.
