The Hendrick Hudson Board of Education on April 21 approved a revision to Policy 2245 to formalize two student ex‑officio members on the board.
Under the revised policy, the district will have a junior member who will serve a two‑year term (sophomore into junior year and junior into senior year) and a senior member who will serve a one‑year term, a structure the board said is intended to provide overlap and continuity of student voice. Board members discussed models observed in other districts that include overlapping student representatives and the possibility of building an advisory pod to broaden student involvement.
The board moved to waive the second reading and approved the policy change during the meeting. Board members said the revision allows students to shadow each other, mentor incoming members and help gather input from their respective schools.
The board plans to return the policy to the policy committee for continued refinement, and staff indicated a second reading or additional adjustments could be made in future meetings if desired.
