Commission approves two small grants for local Mystery 5K race

The commission approved two small awards to support a local Mystery 5K race: a $500 publicity grant and a tourism sponsorship to pay for a race timer and directional signage.

An applicant (presenter) described the event as part of the Summerfest schedule and said the race attracted 34 runners last year, including at least 10 from outside the county. The presenter asked for signage (about 15 signs at roughly $18 each) and a race timer to improve the participant experience and reduce confusion about the start location.

Commissioners asked how the signs would be used and how many would be re-usable. The presenter confirmed the signs would be reusable for future races. After brief discussion a commissioner moved to approve both grants and the motion passed by voice vote.

Staff reminded the applicant that receipts and documentation will be required under the commission’s grant rules and that the updated grant application language will spell out payment and reporting requirements.
