Mayor Josh Gates read and presented a proclamation declaring April 2026 as Autism Acceptance Month in the city of Jasper and encouraged residents to support inclusion and access to services for autistic individuals.
"I, Josh Gates, mayor of the city of Jasper, Alabama, on behalf of the Jasper City Council, do hereby proclaim April 2026 as autism acceptance month in the city of Jasper," Gates said, reading the proclamation that described the month as an opportunity to "promote understanding, inclusion, and support for individuals on the autism spectrum." The proclamation cited the goal of expanding access to services and creating inclusive environments in schools, workplaces and community settings.
The proclamation called attention to local events and partnerships that support inclusion and announced an Autism Acceptance Walk for April 25 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Gamble Park. Council members and attendees joined the mayor at the front of the room for the ceremonial presentation and brief remarks.
The proclamation urges residents to participate in local events, support inclusion efforts, and celebrate the contributions of autistic individuals.
