Jasper council unanimously adopts two budget amendments to fund road repairs, property purchase and shelter improvements

The Jasper City Council unanimously approved two budget amendments that allocate funds for a child advocacy center renovation, a property purchase, road repairs and animal shelter improvements.

Kathy (staff) introduced Budget Amendment 2025-2026-09, which provides $125,000 from opioid funds to renovate the child advocacy center and requests $80,000 to purchase property around Memorial Park. After a motion and second, the amendment was adopted by the council.

Kathy then introduced a second amendment asking for $450,000 for improvements on Blackwall Dairy Road, $11,800 for additional access lanes on Highway 78, and $250,000 for animal shelter repairs. The item was presented as urgent: the council voted to suspend the rules and consider the amendment immediately; the motion for unanimous consent carried and the amendment was approved unanimously. Staff said bids for the road repairs had been received and a contractor would soon be awarded.

Council members did not record dissent during the motions; the actions were adopted by unanimous vote as transcribed.

These amendments draw from two funding sources identified in the meeting: opioid funds (for the child advocacy center renovation) and the city's 1¢ sales tax fund (for the Blackwall Dairy Road, Highway 78 access lanes and animal shelter repairs).
