Avondale outlines $200,000 contributions assistance program and application timeline

City staff presented the Contributions Assistance Program framework and timeline for FY2027 on April 20, confirming level funding of $200,000 to support nonprofit agencies providing health and human services to Avondale residents.

Edith, assistant director for Neighborhood and Family Services, said the program prioritizes direct-service organizations that align with council goals, organizations that can generate other revenue, and those providing services at the Avondale Resource Center. She listed current recipients and highlighted three new agencies for FY2026 award consideration: Avondale Baptist Church (supporting IHELP), Friends of the Southwest Family Advocacy Center, and WAM Art Association for therapeutic veteran programs.

Staff offered two grant-writing workshops in early April, with 29 organizations participating. Applications will be available online April 21 and are due May 15; a council subcommittee will receive application binders May 21 and meet June 11 to determine recommendations. Council will consider funding awards at the July 13 council meeting and award presentations will be in August.

Council members thanked staff for workshop support and for maintaining funding levels; several members noted the importance of avoiding duplication of services and ensuring funds benefit Avondale residents.
