The Saline County Board of Commissioners on April 21 accepted an immediate resignation submitted by Commissioner Chadwick after 19 years on the board.
The chair read a letter from Commissioner Chadwick stating the resignation was prompted by travel plans that would keep him from attending meetings regularly and noting the timing was right for new leadership. In the statement, Chadwick reflected on governance changes during his tenure and thanked colleagues and county staff.
County administrator Matt Stiles described the replacement procedure under state practice: the local Republican precinct committee will meet (scheduled for May 7) to select nominees from District 1; the slate will be forwarded to the governor for appointment. Stiles told the commission an appointment could be expected as early as the May 19 meeting but might take until the first June meeting depending on timing.
The commission did not take additional action at the meeting. Commissioners offered public thanks to the departing member and discussed steps for candidates to contact precinct committee officers before the May meeting.
The resignation is effective immediately; the county’s published process for filling the vacancy will be followed.
