Monona council swears in three alderpersons and elects Patrick Depula as council president

The Monona City Council on April 21 swore in three newly elected alderpersons and chose Patrick Depula as the council president during its organizational meeting.

Mayor Nancy Morris opened the session and called the meeting to order. The council recited the pledge of allegiance before administering the oath to the newly elected members. Patrick Depula, Theresa Rademacher and Brian Holmquist each repeated the oath affirming support for the U.S. and Wisconsin constitutions and promising to faithfully discharge the duties of alderperson.

The council then held an internal election for the position of council president, a role that serves as acting mayor when the mayor is absent. Councilmembers made nominations; the names included Albert Lundquist and a second nomination that was not clearly transcribed. After discussion the council voted by show of hands. Mayor Nancy Morris counted six hands in favor and declared Patrick Depula elected council president.

“Thank you,” the mayor said after the vote, congratulating the new president. Depula offered no extended remarks when invited.

The election was conducted by voice/hand vote and the mayor announced the result at the meeting. No recorded roll-call tally by name was taken in the transcript beyond the mayor’s count of six in favor.

The council closed with brief acknowledgments and scheduled additional appointment work for a May 4 meeting.
