Monona council designates Leader Independent as official newspaper, approves appointments

The Monona City Council on April 21 approved a motion to designate the Leader Independent as the city’s official newspaper and approved a list of appointments to city committees, commissions and boards.

Mayor Nancy Morris moved to make the Leader Independent the official city newspaper; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The council then took up a motion to approve the listed appointments for the evening. The motion to approve the appointments was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote without recorded opposition.

The mayor noted that additional appointments and new people will be appointed at the council’s May 4 meeting to fill some current vacancies. She encouraged residents to apply for citizen-driven commissions and committees as a way to get involved in city governance, saying those bodies are “really important to the operation of the city.”

The meeting adjourned after a motion and second; council members then gathered for a photograph and brief informal remarks about celebrations and scheduling.
