Board hears estimate of $10,000–$15,000 per lead service line, discusses alternatives

Trustees asked about lead service-line replacement alternatives and costs during the April 17 meeting and were given broad estimates to guide future planning.

One trustee said, "I wanna say it was 15,000, I think, per line," reflecting a local estimate heard during the meeting. Staff and other trustees discussed a typical estimate range of $10,000 to $15,000 per service and said that replacing an individual service can be more expensive per line than doing a full-block replacement.

Staff said they were exploring alternatives for service replacement and water-main work and would present options when ready. The board did not adopt a particular replacement plan or appropriation at this meeting; staff indicated they would bring a more detailed presentation later.
