The council appointed Kirk Freeland to a four-year term on the planning commission after an interview process in which three applicants were considered.
The chair introduced Freeland, who was present in the council chamber. "Kirk Freeland, would like your endorsement, your support, and your vote to appoint," the chair said. A council member moved to appoint Freeland and the motion received a second; the council approved the appointment by voice vote. The chair said Freeland is expected to be sworn in next week and staff have already scheduled onboarding and training.
Councilmembers said they appreciated the applicant pool and noted staff would retain the other applications for future openings. No conditions or amendments to the appointment were recorded.
Freeland’s appointment fills an open planning-commission seat and returns the commission toward a full roster ahead of upcoming planning agenda items.
