Council told Libya’s ceasefire endures but security remains fragile; joint training welcomed

An Ansmil representative briefed the Council that while the 2020 ceasefire reportedly has no recorded violations in the period cited, Libya’s security environment remains fragile with localized incidents and continued reports of weapons flows.

"Although no violations of the 2020 ceasefire agreement were recorded, the security situation remained fragile," the representative said, naming clashes reported in Zawiya, Zoran, Homs and Garian and citing continued reports of weapons entering Libya in violation of the arms embargo. He stressed the limits of current security arrangements and the risk of renewed tensions in the capital and elsewhere.

The representative welcomed an April 14 joint training exercise involving military and security actors from eastern and western Libya and the establishment of joint operation rooms, calling these steps "building blocks" toward unifying military and security institutions and promoting confidence-building through inclusive military dialogue.
