The Coweta County Board of Commissioners on April 21 formally recognized the rapid and coordinated response that saved Trey Baggerly after a January cardiac event at the county fairgrounds. County and hospital officials praised bystanders, 911 communications staff, and first responders whose actions contributed to the patient’s survival.
Nick Burgess, the county’s Emergency Management director, described how communications officers and dispatchers gathered crucial information and provided CPR instructions while responders were en route. Coweta County Fire Rescue Chief Robbie Flanagan said responders achieved a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and coordinated radio notification en route to the hospital. Mike Roberts, chief executive officer at Piedmont Newnan Hospital, and the hospital’s chief operating officer, Vicky Kaiser, presented the hospital’s Piedmont Newnan Community Heroes award to volunteer respondent Alan Smith and others involved.
The board and hospital staff emphasized the value of rapid recognition and community partnership in saving lives. The ceremony included certificates of appreciation, plaques and an exhibit poster to be displayed by the hospital. Chairman McKenzie and county staff urged continued attention to emergency training and thanked all participants.
