On April 22 the Tamarac City Commission adopted on second reading a small-scale comprehensive plan amendment to change approximately 6.1 gross acres of land from commercial to industrial to facilitate the development of an industrial warehouse at or near 5600 North Hiatus Road.
City Attorney read the ordinance title and noted the amendment references chapter 163 of the Florida Statutes relating to local planning procedures. The change was described as providing consistency with the land development code and the comprehensive plan and will be transmitted to the appropriate county planning council as required.
The clerk recorded a unanimous roll-call vote in favor of adoption: Mayor Michelle J. Gomes — yes; Vice Mayor Marlon D. Bolton — yes; Commissioner Morrie Wright — yes; Commissioner Crystal Patterson — yes; Commissioner Dr. Keisha Daniel — yes. The chair announced, “Motion passes 5 to 0.”
The item had been presented at first reading on April 7 and staff (Community Development Director Kent Walia) remained available for implementation questions. Because this was a second-reading adoption, the change takes effect according to the ordinance’s stated effective date and subsequent processing with county planning authorities.
Next steps: staff to complete necessary transmittals to Broward County planning bodies and implement zoning and code updates consistent with the comprehensive-plan amendment.
