Fulshear adopts ordinance restricting long‑term parking of large commercial vehicles on residential streets

The Fulshear City Council on April 21 adopted an amendment to Chapter 38 of the city code aimed at restricting long‑term parking of large commercial vehicles and trailers on residential streets.

Staff said the ordinance is intended to address complaints about long trailers and heavy vehicles blocking driveways and limiting emergency vehicle access. The updated language prohibits semi‑trailers, dump trucks, box trucks and similar vehicles from parking on residential streets, while carving out exceptions for active work and deliveries, temporary loading/unloading, and vehicles disabled by breakdown.

Council members debated whether enforcement should rely on officer discretion or include a fixed time limit (examples cited in the discussion ranged from 24 to 72 hours). Police and staff representatives said discretion tied to the officer’s on‑scene assessment is designed to account for legitimate work‑related parking that may last a full business day, while allowing the city to act when a vehicle is unattended or obstructive.

The council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance (listed in the agenda as Ordinance No. 2026‑1533); members directed staff to ensure the ordinance is communicated alongside permitting and work‑permit processes so contractors and residents understand expectations.
