Fayette County Board approves $23.44 million levy order

The Fayette County Board of Education voted 4-0 on April 21 to approve a proposed levy order that the district said will raise $23,444,791 for the coming year.

District finance staff told the board the totals are unchanged from the previously distributed levy order and rate sheets after review by the state auditor. The district broke the amount into $10,595,737 for the school system and $12,849,054 from an excess levy, for the stated grand total of $23,444,791. "I respectfully request that you approve these this evening," the finance presenter said.

Board members discussed the district's allowance for uncollectible taxes, which the presenter said is set at 7 percent. One member asked how the total compares with prior years; the presenter said the levy revenue projection is roughly $500,000 to $600,000 higher than last year.

A board member moved to accept the levy order; the motion carried with an aye vote recorded as 4-0. The board did not record individual roll-call votes in the public remarks beyond the tally.

The board did not specify an effective date in the presentation; staff said the levy order and related rate sheets matched the copies reviewed earlier and that the state auditor made no changes.
