Council approves fence repairs, park stump work, new signs and a lawnmower purchase

Council approved several small public-works items aimed at road and park safety and continued operations.

Chair (S1) described a fence repair bid for $6,400 to replace weakened posts with larger pipe at Kingtown Street and other locations and the council authorized staff to contact Cochran Fence to begin the work. The chair also reported that a park stump removal required larger excavation and gravel backfill, work that the chair asked staff to coordinate with Johnson Paving as part of prior LME arrangements.

The council said new signs and posts have arrived and will be installed within about a week; one lighted stop sign is planned for Hillcrest. Chair (S1) said some speed-limit signage is controlled by the state and that a sign on Blue Ridge Drive will be lowered to 25 mph. On operations, members approved purchasing a push or self-propelled lawnmower for the water plant at a reasonable price (estimated over $500); staff will identify an appropriate unit and complete the purchase.
