Melinda Aslaugsson, committee staff, walked members through the draft interim work plan included in meeting materials and highlighted planned briefings: an OPMA refresher from the attorney general's office, an annual update from the Office of State Actuary (OSA) in May, preliminary actuarial valuation results in June, and an October annual results presentation from the Department of Retirement Systems.
Michael Harbour, actuary for OSA, noted upcoming presentations and said the June valuation will include newly calculated contribution rates that reflect updated demographic assumptions. "In May, our deputy state actuary, Lisa Wan, will share some information about our agency... Then in June, you'll hear about our latest actuarial valuation report, and newly calculated contribution rates," Harbour said.
On public correspondence, staff said they are evaluating how correspondence appears on the committee web page and are working with LegTech to mitigate cybersecurity and privacy risks. "We pulled down the correspondence that is currently out there as soon as we were made aware that that's probably not a best practice," Melinda said, and staff will provide a short briefing next month explaining the changes and how members and the public can submit correspondence going forward.
Ending: The committee adopted a May agenda that includes these briefings and staff will return in May with more detailed schedules and a written interim work plan.
