Board approves contract renewals and hires including new chief student and school support officer

Following a closed session, the Ector County Independent School District board on April 21 approved employment contract renewals for administrators, teachers and other professional support employees for the 2026–27 year and authorized two personnel appointments.

The board approved the personnel recommendation to hire a principal for Ross Elementary and approved the appointment of Jessica Redmond as chief student and school support officer effective with the 2026–27 school year. Motions, seconds and hand votes were recorded for each item. A trustee remarked that they would abstain on one vote; the transcript indicates an abstention was taken but does not record the name of the trustee who abstained.

The resignations, appointments and contract renewals were presented as personnel matters under Texas Government Code provisions authorizing closed-session deliberations. The board returned to open session, made the motions and voted to approve the recommendations.

District staff will complete employment paperwork and the new hires will be reflected in public personnel records once processed.
