Board approves superintendent's contract after closed-session review

The Moriarty-Edgewood School District Board of Education approved the superintendent’s contract following a closed executive session that the board said was allowed under the New Mexico Open Meetings Act for limited personnel matters.

The board convened an executive session to discuss the superintendent’s formative evaluation and contract, citing section 10-15-1(H)(2) of the New Mexico statutes that permits closed discussion of limited personnel matters. After returning to open session the board removed the superintendent’s contract from the table, discussed the term described in the meeting as a 1+1 agreement (effectively a two-year structure), and moved to approve the contract by roll-call vote. Recorded votes showed the measure carried.

Superintendent Bibiano spoke after the vote to thank the board: “I’ve absolutely enjoyed working with this board and for the district, of course. But, appreciate the board support, their understanding, their vision,” he said.

Board members did not discuss the final contract finance or salary details in the public record during the meeting; the board stated no other business was conducted in executive session and that the matters discussed were limited to the stated personnel topic.
