Judiciary committee advances three gubernatorial nominees to full Senate

The Oklahoma Senate Judiciary Committee advanced three executive nominations and sent each to the full Senate for consideration.

Madam leader presented Kevin Buchanan for the Oklahoma State Council of Interstate Adult Offender Supervision; Buchanan, introduced as a former district attorney and current member of the pardon and parole board, thanked the committee and the panel voted to advance his nomination to the Senate floor. The clerk reported the vote as "7 ayes and 0 nays," and the chair declared Buchanan advanced.

Senator Guthrie presented Bobby Raines to serve on the Polygraph Examiner's Board, identifying him as a Bixby resident and state trooper with the requisite qualifications to fill an expired term. Raines addressed the committee briefly and the nomination advanced by roll call (the clerk recorded 6 ayes, 0 nays). Finally, Senator Dossett carried the nomination of Colton Richardson to the Indigent Defense System Board in absentia; the committee advanced that nomination as well (7 ayes, 0 nays).

The confirmations came at the top of the agenda and were handled largely without substantive questioning by the committee. Each advancement was announced after the clerk read roll‑call tallies and the chair declared the nominations to have advanced to the full Senate.

The committee then proceeded to consider a full legislative agenda that included high‑profile measures on criminal law, election administration and child‑safety provisions.

The committee’s next scheduled meeting will resume consideration of a handful of statutory revisions; the chair thanked members and staff and adjourned the session.
