Beaver Area board authorizes discipline-committee reviews of probation agreements in 7–1 vote

The Beaver Area School District Board of Directors voted 7 Aye, 1 Nay on Nov. 18, 2013 to authorize a Discipline Committee to conduct periodic reviews of student probation agreements resulting from expulsions under Level 3, #12 of District Policy No. 218.

Mr. Matthews moved the measure and Mr. Bovalino seconded it; Director Herstine cast the lone Nay. The approved procedure directs that the Discipline Committee, consisting of at least three board members, may consider returning expelled students to school and/or extracurricular activities but only on the recommendation of the school administration. Any proposed changes to probation agreements must be heard by the committee and then ratified by the full board.
