Beaver Area board approves hires, resignations, student teachers and extracurricular trips

The Beaver Area School District Board of Directors on Nov. 18, 2013 approved a slate of personnel and extracurricular items:

- Resignations accepted: Mary Hinzy (Food Service Worker, Secondary Campus, effective Nov. 13, 2013); Terri Bushyeager (Food Service Worker, Secondary Campus, effective Nov. 6, 2013); Leanne Summers (Assistant Varsity and Middle School Volleyball Coach, effective immediately); Zach Hayward (9th Grade Basketball Coach, effective immediately).

- Hires and appointments approved: Michael Ludwig as Secondary Math Teacher (effective Dec. 3, 2013; salary $45,682 prorated, Step 1, Bachelor’s schedule); Wende Dikec and Nicole Madison as Special Education Teaching Assistants ($8.50/hour); Derek Baney (9th Grade Head Basketball Coach, $1,828); Leah Prisuta (Girls’ JV Basketball Coach, $1,828); Renee McRae (Assistant Cross Country Coach, $1,524); and volunteer approvals for coaching positions including Leanne Summers and Tom Masters.

- Student-teacher placements: Gillian Kline and Jamie Dillon (Geneva College placements Jan. 14–Mar. 7, 2014).

- PMEA band festival overnight trips approved for students and one adult chaperone with district cost responsibilities and substitute coverage noted for February, March and March/April 2014 events.

- The board ratified student expulsion case #62013.

All personnel and extracurricular actions recorded in the minutes were approved unanimously unless otherwise noted. The minutes do not provide the rationale for the expulsion or details about candidates beyond contract terms and effective dates.
