The Greeley Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on March 6 reviewed staff recommendations for names of three proposed trail loops and a new natural area at the Arroyos Del Sol property, then voted to table a decision until the following meeting.
Staff presented a narrowed list drawn from 35 community submissions and said the campaign reached 436,635 people via social media. For the three trail loops staff proposed Raptor Ridge (east), Rabbitbrush (middle) and Bobcat Bluffs (west). For the natural-area designation staff recommended four options: Red-wing Roost (or Raptor Roost), Triple Creek Draw (or Triple Creek), Soaring Hawk, and Hooting Hollow (or Blackbird Hollow). Staff said selections were evaluated against the city’s property-naming policy and assessed for opportunities to highlight local natural history and cultural context.
Board members discussed the options and local history related to the Triple Creek name before Sharon Wright moved to table the naming matter for another month; Beth Kleiber seconded the motion and the board agreed unanimously. The board did not adopt any of the staff-recommended names, leaving the nomination process open for additional review and outreach.
The board’s action leaves staff to return with further recommendations and any additional public input at the next scheduled meeting.
