Duchesne County adopts new fire-protection ordinance

The Duchesne County Commission adopted Ordinance 26-431 on April 13, 2026, establishing Title 3 Chapter 3 of the Duchesne County Code to set rules and regulations for fire protection.

Deputy Attorney Grant Charles explained the key edits during a public hearing, saying the draft removes date references that were not consistently followed and updates citations to current state code. Charles also described provisions clarifying that small burn barrels may be used for weeds and debris but not for trash, garbage or rubbish, and summarized the ordinance’s criminal-penalty language as revised to match state law.

Commissioner Tracy Killian moved to adopt the ordinance; Commissioner Jeff Chugg seconded the motion. Commissioners Killian, Chugg and Greg Miles voted aye and the ordinance was adopted.

The measure now stands on the county code as the local framework for fire-protection rules; no public comments were made during the hearing. The commission did not identify immediate implementation steps during the meeting beyond filing the adopted ordinance.
