Centennial SD approves district buses and drivers to support Southampton Days

The operations committee approved a request to use 15 Centennial School District buses, 15 drivers, one truck and a mechanic to support Southampton Days at a cost not to exceed $4,350. The presenter said the district has provided this service for many years and that costs cover drivers, fuel and a mechanic on call.

Committee members asked whether the parking lot at Klinger is used as a fundraiser for the Home & School group or Southampton Days and whether the district receives reimbursement for lot wear-and-tear or liability concerns. A committee member observed that parking at Klinger has been organized by volunteers and that Home & School historically has kept parking revenue for student programs.

The presenter said the district will research whether a facilities-use agreement and insurance/indemnification exist for the event and will report back. The presenter also noted the Home & School makes contributions to the Education Foundation in-kind but does not directly pay for buses; the district will follow up on whether contractual facility-use documentation is in place.

A voice vote to move the transportation item forward was taken and the committee agreed to proceed.
