Riviera Beach recognizes youth programs and honors Major Josh Lewis on retirement

The April 15 Riviera Beach council meeting included a series of ceremonial items. Parks & Recreation Director Casey Young and Assistant Director Mike Pinkney introduced Charger Elite youth football and cheer teams and praised their state and tournament achievements. The council paused for a moment to recognize the teams and take photos.

The council also honored Amari Benjamin as the April emerging leader; his school counselor described his scholarship awards, academic acceleration and community service work, including a blanket drive for people experiencing homelessness.

Vice chair announced Riviera Beach is one of 20 national finalists for the All‑America City Award, citing the youth council, the Citizens Leadership Academy and neighborhood stabilization work as application highlights; staff said more information about the June presentation in Denver will be shared with volunteers.

Chief Michael Coleman and councilmembers publicly thanked Major Josh Lewis for approximately 30 years of service, describing promotions through the ranks, service on task forces and interim chief duties; Lewis expressed appreciation for colleagues and residents.
